Title: George Washington Wants Ice Cream
Genre: Historical Fiction
Word Count: 400
Query:
Dear Michelle and Sharon,
I am happy to submit for your consideration my 400-word historical fiction picture book titled GEORGE WASHINGTON WANTS ICE CREAM. A sweltering summer day nearly gets the best of President George Washington when he can only find the world’s grossest ice cream flavors. But on the way home, he discovers a solution with delicious raspberry-flavored results. The back matter includes a funny True or False quiz (about Washington and the year 1790) and an 18th-century ice cream recipe.
I am a member of SCBWI, and I hold a B.M. in Music and an M.M. in History.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
First 50 words:
George Washington became our nation’s first President
before there was a national capital,
before there was a White House,
and before there was air conditioning.
“WHEW!” said George. “It’s hot! I want some ice cream.”
The icebox was empty.
“It’s wig-melting hot today, Martha! Where’s the ice cream?”
“You finished it yesterday, dear,” she said.
