"The Wheel of Time turns, and ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legends fade to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the third age by some, an Age yet to come, an age long pass, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings or endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning."
Epic fantasy is my favorite genre of fantasy, and I'm hoping to add a few more fans to these fabulous set of fourteen books. It's a series I've been following since 1990 when I unwittingly bought the first edition of what would become my favorite series of all time. Now the last book, A Memory of Light, releases on January 8 and I'm jumping in my winter snow boots with anticipation.
My original, much tattered copy |
So it has been epic, not only in genre, but in timeline, over twenty-three years, two authors, and countless days waiting for the next installment. All that is about to end. "Till shade is gone, till water is gone,
into the Shadow with teeth bared,
screaming defiance with the last breath,
to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day."

Whoohoo! Love this series, if I win I'd like the first book. I need to restart my collection after selling them. Actually, I had the first four book in soft back and between my sister and I reading them they fell apart.
ReplyDeleteI love how strong his female characters are. Much like David Eddings wrote strong females. It was wonderful having such powerful role models as a kid.
I've never read the series... but I'm all for giving it a try, and now's a great time to get into it without having to wait forever for the next one!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite epic fantasy book is probably any of the George R.R. Martin series, although Jim Butcher's Dresden Files or Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicles is also fantastic.

First book for me. I'm at a complete loss when it comes to books with swords on the cover.
ReplyDeleteNow when I was younger? Stuff like Sword of Shannara, The Book of Three, heck even A Spell for Chameleon was like mother's milk. I still remember the headache I had after spending an entire weekend (starting Friday after school and ending sometime late Sunday) when I read the entire Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever trilogy. Oh my aching brain..
I have really loved this series as well. Looking forward to the final installment at last!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite book would have to be either 'The Children of Húrin' by Tolkien or 'The Name of the Wind' by Patrick Rothfuss.
