Free Pass! Free Pass!
I really love doing these! It's like a random act of kindness. It allows one person who might not have made it into the contest to have a shot at the agents. The free pass winner will skip the slush and become one of my final picks for #QueryKombat!
One person who could use a little extra help is able to get constructive comments from the judges!
It's the great equalizer!
And you know what? Last year I used a random generator or the rafflecopter to pick a winner, and that winner became the runner up for the WHOLE contest! Isn't that awesome. She got an agent and is now one of our judges! All from a Free Pass!
That's the way to hit it out of the ballpark!
So here we go:
I want you to leave a comment on this post about where your main character would go for a vacation. Not where they would go to escape. But where they would go to see something that interests them or to rest after everything is over. (And picking Wrigley Field is brown nosing, not that there is anything wrong with that.)
You also need to use the rafflecopter to record that you left a comment. The rafflecopter will pick the winner. There will be additional options to score more entries and raise your chances. They are options having to do with my books and that's why they are optional, but I appreciate your support! (I've been ignoring my book promo in order to, you know, invite agents and find amazing judges. Because contests are a blast!)
This free pass will stay open until May 6th. That gives you three weeks. What are you waiting for--get to entering!
AND BE SURE TO ENTER FOR LAURA'S FREE PASS ALSO!
And good luck!

Kiara Talwar would go on vacation to a cabin in the middle of the woods or mountains, preferably near some body of water.
ReplyDeleteEach of my four main characters would pick somewhere different. Mia would choose Japan. It's one of the few places in Asia she's never been, and she'd be curious to go up to Hokkaido during the summer, each chocolate, see the flowers, and relax. Derek, her twin, would choose to travel to Aspen, Colorado. He isn't a huge fan of travel, so his vacation would be somewhere close. Aspen is pretty with lots of hikes and not a lot of people. Cody, likewise, isn't a huge fan of traveling. But, in his heart, he's always wanted to visit Greece, where his mother's family comes from. He's not big on vacation, so he'd be out there learning about the culture, the history, and the language. Blair would vacation in Brazil. Warm beaches, good food, and an overall friendly atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteMeredith wouldn't be able to wrap her head around a real vacation. If she could, she'd pick somewhere tropical. Except truly, she'd never be able to dream that big, so she'd probably pick a day trip to Chicago to check out the Sears Tower.
ReplyDeleteVerity Player ends her adventures at home, slumped next to the woodburning stove, with a filthy new-year hangover.
ReplyDeleteIf she could be persuaded to budge (which in itself is no racing certainty!) she would love to go to St Petersburg, where her husband is presently visiting his family, and thence on the Trans-Siberian Railway to Mongolia. Because she loves forests. And railways.
And because Mongolia may still have what China has lost.

ReplyDeleteObid would ride his winged lion beyond the bounds of Vzussi, survey the land, and vacation at the beach with the whitest sand and clearest water.
DeleteCole would stay in a city that was close enough to somewhere he could go rock climbing during the day, then out to see bands at night.
ReplyDeleteViolet would go to England to see her favorite boy band in their natural habitat.
ReplyDeleteQuinn would go home to New Orleans to see her family.
ReplyDeleteWill & Trevor would go to the ocean. No one on their continent is allowed within 25 miles of the coast.
ReplyDeleteAstrid would visit Butchart Gardens in Canada. Her mother taught her and her sister hundreds of plant names and uses before she died, and it's that connection with nature and her mother that eventually helps Astrid defeat the enemy and save herself. In a place like Butchart, she could spend the day in a quiet corner of the colorful gardens, naming species until sunset, closer to her mother than she's been in years.
ReplyDeleteAmelia would hunt Anthony Rizzo down from whatever ballpark he's playing at and take him out for pizza. Watching baseball is the one thing that's kept her sane in all her years of running and Rizzo is her man. Come to think of it, she probably owes him a beer to go with that slice.
ReplyDeleteMy character wouldn't care where he went, so long as his best friend Dion was into the destination!
ReplyDeleteMy main character is a 12-year-old girl named Carly who is totally into writing fan fiction. So she would go to Japan because that's where her favorite book series takes place.
ReplyDeleteRozalie would love to visit Japan to immerse herself in the culture, and show her toddler, Damien, the wonders she sees whenever she flickers through a Japanese book.
ReplyDeleteNora would go to Paris so she can practice her French while admiring the historical sites.
ReplyDeleteÁine would spend her vacation in a city with an excellent, old library. She'd spend her days poring over old texts and her nights at the most excellent eating establishments the city had to offer. Veldras would do the same, only he would spend a few hours a day wandering the forest trails just outside the city.
ReplyDeleteGaia would go to the same world where she has her adventures. She'd pick that over a vacation any day. So the book sorta *is* her vacation...
ReplyDeleteAmira
My MC favorite vacation location would be pretty much anywhere that she can be left to her own devices, not to mention avoiding a tan.
ReplyDeleteIn a world where dreams, not nightmares, could actually come true, Deniz Petrosyan would travel to England, there to visit the places that inspired Jane Austen, and the Bronte sisters, and Dickens. To wander, all touristy and lost, through London - to ride one of those red buses, and eat fish and chips in a pub...to sniff old books in a book sellers stall...that would be heaven. She would visit old castles and cathedrals, and imagine a time in which she could enter and claim sanctuary and never have to leave.
ReplyDeleteMy MC would want to drive across the country to NYC but since she's a senior in high school and not rebellious enough to try, she'd drive to her favorite beach park on Puget Sound with a few of her friends.
ReplyDeleteAmanda would take a train to Philadelphia to run the Broad Street Run and catch the Phillies game in early May. Living in Falmouth, Massachusetts is great, but the suburbs of Philadelphia is her home. And the Broad Street Run is still the greatest road race in America.
ReplyDeleteMy MC would enjoy taking her mother to a big city and showing her a good time. Buying her all the things she could never afford as she raised her daughter alone.
ReplyDeleteMy MC Barrie would hit a spa -- and not just any spa: Miraval, a place Oprah has touted. She would get the works: a massage, a facial, a mani-pedi, a hair cut, and pretty much any other treatment available to her. Also: she would not bring anything that could potentially hook her up to the internet. No email. Nope. And dear G-d in heaven, don't make that girl eat sushi. (You'd have to read the book to know why ;-)
ReplyDeletePriscilla would enjoy going to the Anamosa Pumpkinfest in Anamosa, Iowa, to watch the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off...a 1,665.5 lbs. pumpkin is something to see!
ReplyDeleteAllie would find any place of rest and relaxation ok so long as she was there with Spooky, but for preferences, she'd go back to the castle of Dragon Brunelles, so that she can spend the day reading in his many gardens, the evening feasting and talking at his cornucopia-like table and the night stargazing through his long-distance-glasses.
ReplyDeleteMy 3rd-grade MC would visit Disney World, with her assistance dog by her side.
ReplyDeleteMy main character would go to Japan to check out all the cherry blossoms!
ReplyDeleteMy MC would wander. Anywhere will do, as long as it's quiet, lonely, and beautiful. The Oregon Coast in the fall would be perfect, with numb fingers holding hot coffee in the briny air.
ReplyDeleteMy MC, Quinn, would flip out if she could go to the The Library of The Admont Abbey in Austria. It's a beautiful building full of books that looks like it was transported out of a fairy tale. What give wouldn't love a trip like that?
ReplyDeleteFor my MC, Kylie would love to go place tropical for her vacation hideout. She would board the Yellow Taxi Airplane from Naples, Florida to Jamaica. She would meditate and decompress, swim with dolphins and sharks, and stay away from snakes, the reptiles and of the human variety. Peace and quiet with the gorgeous weather and not worry about her thesis, her grant, and everyday life. And she would bring Aidan with her to solidify their newfound relationship.

ReplyDeleteMy mc would go to Sarasota , Florida for vacation. She would need to check out the competition.
ReplyDeleteMy MC would go to Camp David, for a few years anyway... and when it's really all over, it's off to Chatham, Massachusetts.
ReplyDeleteMy MC would go to Camp David, for a few years anyway... and when it's really all over, it's off to Chatham, Massachusetts.
ReplyDeleteMy main character would love to go to the world of Death for vacation, so she can spend time with all the ones that have long passed. So many lives lost that she feels guilty for. (Ironically, she has the power to do it too.)
ReplyDeleteJohn Rush has always wanted to go deep sea fishing. He loves the calming effects of clear blue water. The closer to Columbia, the better - he has always intended to research his family tree and this is the perfect place to start.
ReplyDeleteSeminar Langston would vacation on Lake Superior where for sure she wouldn't have to submit to any embarrassingly awkward social situations.
ReplyDeleteAriel would go wherever her new man wants them to go because a lady doesn't demand things. But her sister Leira would head to Vegas- with her skirt hiked up and feathers in her hair.
ReplyDeleteMires would go somewhere with a beautiful view for her to paint and can view beautiful works of art. It's a secret passion that she never gets to indulge in.
ReplyDeleteAcelya dreams of visiting Istanbul, Turkey! Her great-great-great-great-great grandmother traveled from Turkey over a hundred years ago to establish a new life on Greenland.
ReplyDeleteShe would climb Mount Loral with Broq. He would tease her the whole way and say she was too young to climb mountains. They would sit down on the highest point and wait for the darkness to spread across the sky. And she would count the stars. No buildings or clouds to hinder her counting. No wall to block her view. And perhaps Professor Ciero would prove her wrong. Maybe there are more than 350 of them.
ReplyDeleteSandy Jo has been living her life through the lens of what she needed to do versus what she wanted to do. If she were given a free pass to unwind, she'd fly to Colorado, or wherever her best friend was from the good ol' days in a moment's notice. She can only truly unwind being with someone who knew without a doubt who she used to be, even if she was a little lost today.
ReplyDeleteMy main character would go to Mumbai, India. She'd take her mom along with her.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving how different these answers are! Such an international group!
ReplyDeleteAnna would head to Europe, to experience a 'civilized life', as her Mother calls it, for from the deprivations of 1876 colonial Australia.
ReplyDeleteMy MC would probably love to go to New York so she could see a concert at Carnegie Hall.
ReplyDeleteKrish would go explore her late mother's country with Ashbel as her guide. She'd tour everything, get into small fights on the way, and enjoy the absolute freedom and beauty of their journey, along with the opportunity to just spend time with Ashbel after everything's done. Ashbel would take her flying as he'd promised, then to the sea, where he'd teach her to swim, and they would reunite with the rest of their makeshift family somewhere along the way.
ReplyDeleteWell tuscany, of course! What girl wouldn't want to vacation in Tuscany.
ReplyDeleteAny where on a coastline with magnificent crashing waves
ReplyDeleteMy main character Selene would find the nearest island and stay there for months after the crap she's been through. She's used to warm weather, but would love a tropical island to sip margaritas on, and take lovely long swims in the ocean!
ReplyDeleteXavier would go to Ireland. He'd hope to take Wend with him. In fact, there's a line in my book about this where he makes that very offer. She thinks he's kidding, of course, but he wasn't.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity.
Congrats to Eva P.
DeleteVi and Lucian would both want to go to London and nerd out (theatre-history style) at The Globe.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who has spent most of his life shut away in a castle, Vael would enjoy traveling across Europe, giving him an opportunity not only to see the outside world but to also interact with different people. Having his brother along for the trip would be an extra bonus for him.
ReplyDeleteLexi would love to go back to France. She studied there for one semester; she minored in French in undergraduate school. She wants to see all that she did not get to see the first time she was there. She would especially like to go on a backpacking trip in the French Alps. If this thing with Ryan works out, she would like to take him with her.
ReplyDeleteTough one, seeing as that my main character has BEEN on vacation for 12 years, which, in a roundabout way, is the root of his problem. But if he had to leave Maine (Vacationland), probably . . . Greece?
ReplyDeleteMy MC would go back to middle school.
ReplyDeleteThe good thing is my protagonist lives in a castle overlooking the sea, but the bad thing is the castle is filled with manipulative, clawing mystics hungry for power. So she would go on vacation out in the country on unspoiled land where she and her mind can be free from the intrigue.
ReplyDelete-Tamara Girardi
Since she's never been on an airplane in her life, Masha would pack one or two T-shirts, put on the hiking boots her Mom bought her as a gag gift, and go visit every and any ruins she could find. Not that she's much of a history buff, but her video game characters always end up in a decaying temple or fortress, fighting for their lives. Since she's bent on being a video game designer, she has to get inspiration straight from the source, right? South America, Asia, Europe, Africa, here she comes--after winning the lottery or something, cause her dreams might be big, but her pocket's tiny.
ReplyDeleteI think my main character would travel overseas to Scotland or Ireland. :)
ReplyDeleteMy character would go home.
ReplyDelete@colleensmyers
If my main character could travel anywhere in the world, she would likely travel to Australia because it’s pretty close to being as far away as possible from her hometown.
ReplyDeleteMy main character has always been fascinated by humans (and fully appreciative of their tea). She would go to the human world to see what other amazing things they have to offer. I wonder if she would enjoy pizza as much as I do.
ReplyDeleteMy MC would love to go back to her hometown; Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Her home was located near the Mount Merapi and she missed seeing all the ritual processions leading up to its peak, which often passed in front of her home. It was where her last family member resided, a twin brother who she didn't remember his existence in the last 15 years. After she learned that her parents had passed away, she need this home more than ever.
ReplyDeleteTessa loves big cities, especially those with fancy architecture and a sophisticated atmosphere. Paris would be perfect for her, and she'd spend her days strolling the boulevards and savoring the rich cheese.

ReplyDeleteMy MC left his mansion in Hollywood and took an extended "vacation" deep in the hills and woods of Central Wisconsin.
ReplyDelete@Wis_Kim
Ethan would go back to the woods (perhaps a national park). Nothing beats nature.
ReplyDeleteAnywhere with lots of vineyards. Of course. After all she'a a writer!
ReplyDeletePerhaps a rocky coastline that no one has discovered yet so she can be alone with the fictional characters in her head.

ReplyDeleteMC would definitely go to Camp David. Unless she gets to escape to the Chatham Bars Inn.
ReplyDeleteNorway, for sure! My MC would love to explore the fjords.
ReplyDeleteMy main character, Sandra, would take a trip to Puerto Rico. Her family's from the island, but she hasn't been back for a visit in years. As a mom of four kids under five, she could use some time away in a beautiful spot!

ReplyDelete-H. Elliott (helliottwrites.wordpress.com - for some reason this blog won't recognize my Wordpress ID)
Parker would no doubt head to New York City to scope out which fab apartment she'll live in one day, once her future Broadway stardom is on lock.
ReplyDeleteChloe would go to Italy in honor of her best friend.
ReplyDeleteRyan's destination of choice is Disneyland...always Disneyland. Why? Because Disneyland is the happiest place on Earth, and after mourning the suicide of his friend, Ryan could use a day riding Indiana Jones, Space Mountain, and The Spinning Teacups with his younger brother, Justin.
ReplyDeleteMarina would go tour the cathedral's in Europe, making sure she timed her trip to coincide with organ concerts in each cathedral. Then she'd hit up a Walk The Moon concert on her way home.
ReplyDeleteMy MC would go to Rome--that would be a nice vacation for her and a big change from growing up in a small Texas town.
ReplyDeleteSabine would road trip it across the country, stopping at as many vintage swaps as she could find, collecting dresses and brooches and if she got lucky, a pair of knee-high practically-unworn boots. She'd end in Amherst, where she'd pay tribute to the woman who's words helped her through it all--the recluse poet Emily Dickinson, who's work she poets when she's nervous. Then, back to the open road. That pair of boots is out there somewhere.
ReplyDeleteMy MC would take a trip to Ireland, where he was born. He left at the age of 3 and has never had the opportunity to return.
ReplyDeleteGrace would pack her four favorite t-shirts (they are all exactly the same), snag her best friend Pip and head to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janiero. On arrival, the girls would plant themselves outside the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team locker room. Grace MUST HAVE Carli Lloyd’s signature and Pip will have her eyes out for Sydney Leroux. I hope they have plenty of snacks, could be a long wait in the hot Brazil sun.
ReplyDeleteMy main character would go back home to Washington state and sit on the winding shore of Lake Crescent with her sisters and parents. She'd drag her new best friend along also, though he would rather be in the French Quarter of New Orleans, playing his accordion.
ReplyDeleteCameron would take Li and they'd go somewhere really private to escape his duties for a while. Mal would take Kat and go someplace really hedonistic and spend the time enjoying lifes pleasures.
ReplyDeleteCameron would take Li and they'd go somewhere really private to escape his duties for a while. Mal would take Kat and go someplace really hedonistic and spend the time enjoying lifes pleasures.

Phoebe Fogg would go to St. Petersburg, Russia for a vacation, to remember the time she spent there with her parents.

ReplyDeleteToby Harris has a bucket list with her dad -- top 100 adventurous things they want to do together. Next up? Scuba diving off the coast of Australia.
ReplyDeleteK-1 would go to Hawaii to see the volcanoes. The thought of extreme heat and lush foliage intertwined is utterly fascinating to her, and she cannot believe that something like an ocean could possibly exist. She would also very much like to do honor to the people that were sacrificed there, and leave a lei for them.
ReplyDeleteLily Gayle Lambert would go to Orange Beach, Alabama. It's known as the "redneck Riveria' of the Gulf Coast and a place where she's sure to relax along with old friends. And the new ones she never fails to make.
ReplyDeleteSkye would definitely go to Geneva, Switzerland. While most would go for the lovely atmosphere, sight-seeing, and governmental aspects, Skye would go because it's really close to (and gives her the ability to see) the Large Hadron Collider. She's a big nerd, and that's a once in a lifetime thing to see.
ReplyDeleteAfter the shit-storm that becomes their lives is sorted out, my FourBorn girls (Evadne, Isaura, Oriana, and Kaia) would choose to go on a vacation together to their newfound, original home world - Domis Elementia. They will have spent four books fighting: fighting armed soldiers, fighting a great evil, fighting each other....and now, they'd want to spend time getting to know their mother and each other, as sisters. And the vacation continent of Domis Lesser is a lovely tropical place to do just that!

He wanted to find out the truth about the rumors that their ski slopes where more exciting than the ones in the States. To get the extra adrenaline-fix he’d go bungee jumping, river rafting and skydiving.

ReplyDeleteEver since Joshua saw "Finding Nemo" he wanted to visit Sydney, Australia.
ReplyDeletePawly's mother is a landed immigrant from Poland--and a werecat. She quickly develops a love for ethnic cuisine and folk music following her family's return to the Chicago Polish neighborhood where her mother and human father grew up. In keeping with tradition she comes to enjoy the family's home-brew vodka well before reaching her majority. After touring the Pacific courtesy of the US Navy, Pawly longs to visit her ancestral homeland to reconnect with her long-lost kin--and to smuggle a few liters of Żubrówka back with her to the States. Customs inspectors will prove the least of her worries...
ReplyDeleteStubby would go back to Paris to see the sites that he missed during the war. When he and his human, Conroy , were there before, they were mostly restricted to the military hospital where they were recuperating. I just hop he invites me to go with him!

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. It should work as you have an account that allows you to leave blog comments. Try again in a few hours and see if it works then.
DeleteClare wants to go somewhere she can swim with dolphins. She's an elite swimmer, and her best stroke is butterfly, which partly mimics the movements of a dolphin.

ReplyDeleteSirena and Regin would vacation together in a cabin alone, where neither family could interfere.
ReplyDeleteFinn would go on a backpacking trip across Europe.
ReplyDeleteIf she could go somewhere to relax, it would probably be somewhere with a beautiful forest, verdant and brimming with life, somewhere a river flows, ever changing, never still. It doesn't matter where. What matters is that lie surrounds her.
ReplyDeleteIsla has spent most of her adult life travelling so she is a bit fed up of being other places. She does rather like a luxury hotel though so she wouldn't pass up a night or two at Monachyle Mhor in the Trossachs in Scotland where gin and tonic on the lawn, scones at tea time and long walks with the dog to stalk deer with a camera are all on the agenda. Aw, now I'm homesick...
ReplyDeletePayton Trapp would fly to Los Angeles to chill out in Venice Beach. She would spend her days surfing in the morning, reading her favourite books oceanside, watching the skateboarders in the park and enjoying the spectacular sunsets every evening. She would choose Venice because she is certain that spending time there would allow her to forget about everything and everyone.
ReplyDeleteClaire would head to Turkey. With her best friend being Turkish, she'd grown up surrounded by the family's culture, and adores their food. She'd love nothing more than to completely immerse herself in the country's culture with her best friend, and possibly her best friend's brother... if they're getting along that day!
ReplyDeleteMy main character would probably return to her roots and visit Romania. As a first generation born outside of the motherland, she'd go to visit with distant relatives, and learn more about the culture she's part of. Because she's a vampire, there's also the appeal of Castle Bran and the origins of Dracula, which she'd no doubt want to learn more about.
ReplyDeleteNo question. Sydney Spencer would go to Disney World!
ReplyDeleteAs a fan of A Cappella, Beatrice would go to NYC to attend the ICCA finals.

DeleteSam would head to the museum dedicated to her favorite elf super spies, Frank Phaeton and Ace McGuile.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never met my grandmother in Sweden, I’ve only seen pictures. Actually flying to Sweden to meet my dad’s family would be amazing. But, honestly? I just received an actual castle in Ireland as tribute for becoming Princess of the Fae-born, and I’ve wanted my own castle since I was a little girl. Don’t tell Dad.
ReplyDeleteMy character Joseph would go to Paris. His parents are French, so he already speaks the language. He also loves music, opera in particular--he'd attend one nearly every night!
ReplyDeleteLivy would probably go to Disneyland. Since she lives in a different realm, the idea of a princess visiting a fantasy-and-magic-themed amusement park would be absolutely hysterical and fascinating to her. She is adventurous, too, so she would get a kick out of the roller coasters.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen would travel to a major city- full of people. She would take in a show, join a tour group, really any activity that would allow her to interact with others.

Kai would go somewhere far away from the city and the fortress. She would try to find a body of water, because she's never seen one before.
ReplyDeleteShannon Sloan, the main character in THE TRUST GAME, has been obsessed with visiting Varanasi ever since she she learned that the remains of her murdered mentor, Alessandra "Sandri" Patel, were being flown there for a traditional Hindu cremation - followed by a scattering of ashes, along the banks of the Ganges River. Shannon adored and practically worshipped Sandri for the nearly four years that they worked together at Bemelmans Brothers Law Firm in NYC, but it wasn't until Sandri was found murdered in a Tribeca hotel room that Shannon began to recognize just how little she really knew about her beloved, now-deceased, boss.
ReplyDeleteMy MC would go to England because she is a devout Dr. who fan and also is a bit obsessed with all things Pride and Prejudice. Of course she will keep an eye out for the royal family in memory of her sister.
ReplyDeleteBri Fortes would go to the French Riviera, anywhere along the coast, but specifically the tiny town of Toulon.
ReplyDelete
