Dear Michelle and Sharon,
This sweet and spicy story is a modern twist on the beloved "Gingerbread Baby" by Jan Brett.
Mattie is a curious little baker, who decides to substitute spices instead of sugar in her cupcake recipe. What happens as a result?
The whole town following a dozen fiery pirate cupcakes that popped right out of the oven in search of their treasure! With their cupcake captain in the lead, and repeating "...you can't stop me", these little delicious and audacious treats take on playground children, school teachers, and farm animals all while pointing tiny toothpicks in hot pursuit of their riches.
The tale ends with an even better twist centered around a teacher heroine and her creative story solving. Running 931 words in length, CUPCAKE WARS is a sweet and spirited adventure sure to be enjoyed by children, parents and most certainly educators.
I am currently a Stay at Home Mom of 3 young girls, who each most certainly play the muse. In fact, experimenting in the kitchen with my desert loving toddlers is what inspired me to write this story. When I'm not mothering, I like to submerge myself in crafting or creating anything I can hot glue together or hang on my front door. Prior to being a mother, I was a Kindergarten teacher for 10 years. There, it felt like I was never without a book in my sticky, marker covered hands. One of the highlights of my career was chairing the Reading Committee. I helped pioneer the first of many Reading Nights - an incredibly prosperous after school event for parents and caregivers. The result was an older generation of brand new book lovers.
I am genuinely committed to my craft. There are many other manuscripts waiting patiently in the wings as writing is my happy place. Writing for children is my Heaven.
Thank you so very much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. I have attached the allotted selection from my manuscript below for your viewing.
First 50 Words One rainy day, Mattie said to her mommy, " Let's make cupcakes!"
"Yum! Good idea!" said mommy. They looked at the recipe and gathered the flour, sugar, butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla. But Mattie was curious and wondered what would happen if she added some spices instead of sugar. So she added JUST a pinch....or two...
