PBParty 25: The Kingdom of Conundrum, Humorous PB Riddles

Title: THE KINGDOM OF CONUNDRUM
Genre: Humorous Picture Book
Word Count: 460

Query:

Dear Agent:

Thank you for being a part of PB Party. I am seeking representation for my picture book, THE KINGDOM OF CONUNDRUM, a rollicking read aloud about the land of riddles. This humorous 460 word story is appropriate for 5-8 year olds. A comp for my story is PETEY AND PRU AND THE HULLABALOO by Ammi-Joan Paquette for her use of vocabulary.

A witch casts a spell on the King of Conundrum requiring him to solve unanswered riddles. He has a limited time in which to answer each riddle or its subject will overrun his kingdom. For months he is successful until a deceptively simple riddle stumps him. The king remains clueless as his country is overrun with chickens that lay eggs everywhere including his own bed.

A member of SCBWI, I have taught  language arts at all levels and worked in the children's department of a Barnes and Noble Booksellers. I have several other finished picture book manuscripts.

I look forward to hearing from you.

First 50 Word:

When a wily witch put a spell on its king, his peaceful kingdom was cursed.

            "Why me?" he asked.

"Conundrums are riddles. You can't expect to be the king of a country called Conundrum
and not solve riddles," said the witch.

"But I don't even like riddles. I like basketball."
